Simcha Babaev – certified yoetzet halacha in taharat hamishpachah.
A yoetzet halacha is a woman who has completed intensive Torah training in taharat hamishpachah. She is certified to answer halachic questions about your cycle, stains, bedikot, counting the clean days, immersion and much else.
A yoetzet halacha certified by Nishmat spends two years studying the laws of niddah in depth, alongside women's health, domestic abuse and fertility treatment. She is then examined orally by four of today's leading poskim.
The difference that matters: a woman talking to a woman. Questions this personal call for sensitivity and privacy, which is why so many women find it easier to bring them to a yoetzet halacha.
Every question is a legitimate question. None is too small or too embarrassing.
A brown stain, a small one, one on a sheet — every shade and every location. Sometimes there's a solution you didn't know existed.
Forgot a bedikah? A color you can't call? I'll tell you exactly what to do.
Which color is acceptable, at what hour, and what to do when it doesn't come out the way it should.
Preparation, chafifah, chatzitzot, immersing on Motzaei Shabbat, and the night of the mikveh.
A fixed veset, haflagah, the onah of separation — what to observe and when.
What's permitted and what isn't while you're nidda? And what exactly are the harchakot?
Bleeding in pregnancy, after birth, miscarriage — every stage brings its own questions.
The pill, an IUD, a ring — and their halachic implications.
IVF, IUI, hormones — halachic guidance through fertility treatment.
Irregular bleeding, periods tapering off — the halachic questions this stage raises.
Preparing for the wedding, the first night, the first immersion — at your own pace.
The questions that are hard to ask — ask me. That's what I'm here for.
Maybe you already asked a friend, or your mother, and you're not sure they pointed you the right way.
Maybe you're being stricter on yourself than you need to be, simply because you'd rather not discuss something this personal with a man.
Maybe you did a bedikah, you can't tell whether it's clean, and you can't bring yourself to show it to a rav.
For more than 20 years Nishmat has been training yoatzot halacha: G-d-fearing women who study the laws of niddah in the same depth rabbanim do, alongside subjects like women's health and fertility. The point is to put halachic guidance within reach of women who would otherwise never ask at all.
No, we don't pasken. When a question calls for a ruling, we bring it to a rav and come back to you with his answer.
My name is Simcha. First of all a wife and a mother, b"H. I had the privilege of training as a yoetzet halacha, and having seen how much good this work does in other communities, I want the women of Holon to have it too.
Simcha was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and made aliyah after high school. She studied at Midreshet Rachel v'Chaya, the Midrasha at Bar-Ilan University, Matan, and Nishmat. She advises kallot and women in Israel and abroad. In her quieter moments, you'll find her preparing her Zera Shimshon shiur, listening to Rabbi Silber's Daf Yomi, or learning hilchot Shabbat b'iyun. Simcha lives in Holon with her husband, Dr. Meir Babaev, and their family, b"H.
